Binh Thuan dragon fruit at risk of crop failure

Binh Thuan is known as the biggest dragon fruit producing province of Vietnam with an area of over 10,000 hectares,and an annual production of more than 200,000 tons. This year, due to erratic weather conditions and insufficient water, thousands of hectares of dragon are at risk of crop failure.
Dragon price on the market is stable at 10,000 to 12,000 VND per kg. At these prices, farmers can gain 3 times profit as much as the last year. However, thousands of dragon fruit - growing households in Binh Thuan are worried about the danger of dragon crop failure.
Ham Thuan Nam, one of the largest districts in Binh Thuan province, is facing serious water shortage. Water level in Tan Lap and Ba Bau lakes depleted, leading to many cultivation area of dragon fruits exhausted day by day.
